Is it possible to enjoy holiday parties and not gain weight?
Okay, I’ll be honest here… I’ve never seen a more well-versed group of wine connoisseurs this side of the California state line than our Memorial clients! Cheers neighbors!! So let’s talk drinks and lay down a few Holiday Ground Rules for maintaining your weight this busy season:
Limit yourself to 7 alcoholic drinks of any kind, per week. Alcohol is a gateway to those seemingly harmless finger foods. (I speak from experience.)
Drink water and limit caffeine. We commonly mistake thirst cravings for hunger. *Carbonated, calorie-free drinks contribute to a feeling of fullness and are a good substitute if water is too boring for you.
Eat a healthy meal/heavy snack a couple hours before the party.
Prioritize and protect your sleep. Lack of sleep is a trigger for your body to crave calories as it searches for energy throughout the day.
INSIDER’S TIP For those of you who don’t eat often enough or those who graze constantly throughout the day, set daily alarms on your phone for meal times. Start within an hour of waking up and set one every 3-4 hours. Whether you are reminding yourself to eat, or keeping yourself from eating until it’s time, this can help you track when the extra calories are sneaking in.
Remember you will eat again. This party is not the only party and this is not your last meal!
