When and under what circumstances should I begin exercising again?
Today, friend, today. Respect the precautions for your personal risk then go for it!
We know that exercise is a miracle drug that improves obesity, high blood pressure, lowers chronic inflammation, and improves various immune markers in diseases including cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cognitive impairment and improves immune responses to vaccination, but now? Now it’s hitting close to home. The above conditions are the very same things that can make a difference in the Coronavirus becoming deadly and conversely, being fit improves your ability to combat the symptoms.
However, we are somewhat protected here in Memorial and I think we should take notes from this. The reality is that we are discovering in real time, how having the means and motivation for preventative health is saving our lives. I hope we seize the opportunity to invest further in our quality of life with this example. We are fortunate in this neighborhood that the size of our homes allow us to social distance and we have stable income to buy healthy foods, and rely on professionals who guide our families in nutrition, exercise and mental health. It is important to recognize that we have the means to prevent the other conditions that threaten us even if they are better understood and can be treated with meds. Let’s all get in the game of prevention and take control of our quality of life. Exercise now, eat well, get off the meds when possible and stay healthy for the long haul.
