What happens in Cardiac rehab?

Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is a supervised program designed to improve cardiovascular health. Anyone who has experienced a cardiac event or procedure may benefit from cardiac rehab. If you have not yet had a cardiovascular event or procedure but are at risk, The Villages Gym (TVG) offers a prehab program as a preventative measure. CR includes exercise training, emotional support, stress management, and education to reduce heart disease risk. Education topics may include medications, smoking cessation and how to follow a heart healthy diet. Here at TVG we work with Memorial Hermann as well as local cardiologists to keep patients safe. TVG has qualified staff and will prioritize patients’ needs first. When you first come in, we will gather your information and do an assessment. You will work hands on with a registered nurse, exercise physiologist, registered dietician, physical therapist, and stress management therapist to design a personalized program. We provide a COVID safe environment with our sanitation station and temperature check upon arrival.

When patients come in for a scheduled session, they will be connected to a telemetry system with a monitor. This allows staff to safely monitor patient’s rhythm and heart rate. Other vitals such as blood pressure and oxygen saturation are also monitored throughout the session. Upon completion of our monitored program patients are then welcomed to join with a cardiac membership. This allows for more independence but still offers supervised care.
